  • Position Summary

    The Surface Landman is responsible for the execution of Oasis Petroleum's surface operations and obligations under Oil & Gas Leases.  This individual will provide leadership while representing the Company in negotiations with landowners, and county and state officials regarding Company operations, permits, right of way and surface damage negotiations. This role will report directly to the Permian Land Manager and is based in our Midland location. Level and salary commensurate with experience.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Manage the acquisition and/or leasing of surface rights and rights of way (ROW), including internal and external route planning, document preparation, negotiation, title review and closing
    • Prepare and submit check requests and supporting documents
    • Ensure that completed agreements are timely submitted to Land Administration for entry into records system
    • Communicate final pipeline information and access routes to appropriate departments and external service providers
    • Coordinate and conduct pre-construction on-sight meetings with Land Owners and State of Texas personnel as each project dictates
    • Investigate, negotiate and settle claims related to Oasis Operations
    • Assist and participate with upstream and midstream engineers, geologists and drilling teammates in the planning, preparation and execution of the Oasis drilling program
    • Participate in other Oasis projects or initiatives as needed

    Minimum Qualifications

    • 2 years experience as a practicing Landman
    • 5 years of related experience dealing with land access, permitting and/or right of ways
    • Strong interpersonal skills and a proven track record when dealing and communicating with Land Owners, employees and regulatory agency personnel
    • Ability to be mobile and travel as needed
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • 5 years of Right of Way or Land Acquisition experience
    • Strong knowledge and background in the oil & gas or utility industry with regionally specific experience
