  • Position Summary

    The Permian Geologist will be a key member of the technical team responsible for the subsurface evaluation of Oasis’ core assets within the Delaware Basin.  The focus will be to gain a better understanding of multiple reservoir horizons which are proven or prospective within the asset area.  The team will develop a plan to efficiently analyze, appraise, and make recommendations for future well locations and the continuous development of the asset.  Additionally, this role involves regular coordination with the reservoir, completions, production, regulatory and drilling groups, to recommend possible reservoir targets and landing zones, define well locations, optimize well spacing and completions, and develop strategies to maximize the economic potential of the asset. This position will report to the Delaware Team Geoscience Manager, and is located in downtown Houston, TX. Level and salary commensurate with background and experience.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Advance the company's understanding of existing and emerging subsurface technologies for developing unconventional and conventional reservoirs.
    • Provide continuous input for field-wide development opportunities, including infill well spacing for currently exploited reservoirs and identifying new reservoirs.
    • Work closely with Geophysicist, Operations Geologists, Drilling, Completions, and Reservoir Engineers to help resolve real-time drilling hazards, share knowledge and data, and optimize strategies for planning of well locations and development areas.
    • Champion development of foundational technical expertise leading to top tier geological interpretations, petrophysical analysis, and incorporation of emerging technologies.
    • Monitor/evaluate competitor activity. Reinforce these learnings with reservoir group in core asset areas.  Implement and maintain fast follower best practices.
    • Analyze and interpret core and well log data, identify key data gaps across asset and push forward plans to fill these gaps.
    • Calibrate core data to all available wireline log data and aid geophysicist in tying log data to the available seismic data, as needed.
    • Continuously tie all subsurface data to, the growing, well performance data set with the intent of providing a methodology to help financially rank future development opportunities
    • Perform basin level assessments of plays toward possible entry.
    • Mentor less experienced geoscientists across company, as needed.
    • Technical contribution on new venture opportunities within the asset area
    • Interaction with Business Development to help develop acquisition and extension opportunities providing company growth 
    • Additional duties as needed by management and Company operations

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master's degree in Geology
    • 15 years industry experience
    • 5 years’ recent experience working unconventional plays
    • Proficient use of geological workstations (Kingdom) or equivalent, and Microsoft Office Suite of software.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
    • Self-motivated individual with strong analytical and decision-making skills
    • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and communicate in a multi-disciplinary team environment, with consultants, and with vendors/ technical service providers
    • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:  Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone

    • Recent Permian Basin unconventional play experience
    • Experience with 2D & 3D Seismic Interpretation and geo workflows
    • Fluent with Petrophysical analysis concepts and practices
    • Source Rock Geochemistry fundamental knowledge
    • Operations experience
    • Conventional evaluations experience
    • Kingdom software experience 
    • Prior mentoring and/or leadership experience
