Position Summary

The Business Development Manager is responsible for leading the Business Development Team inclusive of commercial, engineering, and land functions to advance strategic initiatives within the Business Development department.  This individual is expected to manage BD commercial, engineering, and land personnel, provide oversight of and coordinate acquisition and divestiture evaluations across multi-discipline teams, lead the execution of transactions, guide commercial, engineering, and financial analyses, support staff development, and contribute on special projects.  This position will report to the Managing Director, Business Development and is located in downtown Houston, TX. Level and salary commensurate with background and experience.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead and manage Business Development commercial, engineering, and land functions
    • Facilitate staff performance and development goal setting and achievement
    • Identify and implement Business Development best practice workflows
    • Maintain a strong collaborative relationship with other peer level managers to prepare and facilitate Business Development and Company objectives   
    • Promote a team environment within cross-functional teams
    • Understand Company mission and goals, and promote Company values and culture
  • Oversee and coordinate overall acquisition and divestiture evaluations within Business Development and across the organization, particular emphasis on commercial, engineering, finance, and land components
  • Coordinate transaction execution within Business Development and across the organization
  • Identify, engage, and monitor potential acquisition targets
  • Assist in oversight of regional/basin level commercial-technical assessments of unconventional plays
  • Contribute on special projects as needed
  • Additional duties as requested based on Company needs

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Business or Engineering
  • 10 years of experience with a strong background in unconventional play acquisition evaluations, economics/financial modeling, and execution and corporate finance
  • Strong background in transaction contracts review and negotiations (e.g. confidentiality agreements, purchase and sale agreements, and joint venture agreements)
  • 2 years of leadership/supervisor experience, preferably with an E&P company
  • Experience in setting and achieving goals and objectives, providing feedback and coaching staff
  • Experience leading multi-functional teams
  • Self-motivated individual with strong analytical, decision-making, and teamwork skills
  • Microsoft Office software (Excel/PowerPoint/Word/Outlook)
  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:  Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA
  • Experience in the Permian Basin and Williston Basin
  • E&P oil and gas industry experience
