  • Position Summary

    Oasis is seeking a Senior Accountant, Sales & Use Tax for its corporate office located in Houston, Texas. This position will be responsible for all aspects of state and local sales & use tax, including planning, compliance, and audit defense. Additional responsibilities include assistance with other indirect taxes, as needed. This position will report directly to the Tax Director. Salary and level will be commensurate with experience.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Responsible for all activities related to North Dakota and Texas sales & use tax
    • Preparation and filing of sales & use tax returns
    • Monthly account reconciliation and related journal entries for sales & use tax liability accounts
    • Coordinate sales & use tax audits for North Dakota & Texas
    • Determine the proper application of sales & use tax for all vendors
    • Use data analytics in order to identify and remediate high risk sales & use tax underpayment exposure
    • Proactively stay abreast of new and proposed legislation that could impact the Company’s sales & use tax liability, including determining and projecting the impact on the Company, as needed
    • Lead the execution and implementation of any sales and use tax planning initiatives, as well as sales and use tax process improvements
    • Review and maintain sales & use tax internal controls, and participate in all sales & use tax controls testing by both internal and external auditors
    • Be a key point of contact to resolve all sales & use tax-related issues, both within the Accounting department and across the organization
    • Assist with other indirect taxes as needed, including property tax

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related degree required
    • 5+ years of sales & use tax experience, including Texas & North Dakota
    • Advanced technical knowledge of state and local sales & use tax laws, regulations, and policies specific to the upstream oil and gas industry
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and research tools.
    • Strong analytical and technical skills; detailed oriented.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of the organization.
    • Strong organizational skills and work process orientation necessary; ability to prioritize workload and deliver results.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Must be an independent self-starter with a high level of confidence and a critical approach to matters.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Masters in Tax, or similar advanced degree
    • Active CPA or CMI certification
    • Experience with Enertia accounting systems preferred
