Position Summary

This position is a technically based, personal contribution role designed to advance key company initiatives and technical evaluations.  The Geologist will be responsible for the geologic evaluation of company-based core assets within the Delaware Basin.  The primary focus will be to evaluate, plan, and make recommendations for future development of the asset and to help identify future well locations.  This role involves creating geological maps and cross-sections, core and well log analysis and interpretation and or the use of 3rd party interpretations.  The candidate must demonstrate strong presentation skills and will be required to provide geological interpretations to assess current and future drilling programs and evaluate ultimate reservoir potential.  Additionally, this role involves regular coordination with the reservoir, completions, production, regulatory and drilling groups, to recommend possible reservoir targets, define well locations, optimize practices, and develop strategies to maximize the economic potential of the asset. The individual will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating competitor activity within the basin. The focus will be to gain a better understanding of alternate reservoir horizons being explored or exploited, new strategies, and innovative concepts and technology that are being utilized within the basin to help improve reserves and economics. Interaction with members of the regulatory team is to prepare appropriate exhibits and provide testimony for monthly State Regulatory hearings. This position will report to the Delaware Asset Manager, and is located in downtown Houston, TX. Level and salary commensurate with background and experience.

Essential Job Functions

  • Advance the company's understanding of existing and emerging subsurface technologies for developing unconventional and conventional reservoirs
  • Provide input for field-wide development opportunities, including infill well spacing, and deep reservoir potential 
  • Work closely with Operations Geologists, Drilling, Completions, and Reservoir Engineers to help resolve real-time drilling hazards, share knowledge and data, and optimize strategies for future planning of well locations and development areas
  • Champion development of foundational technical expertise leading to top tier geological interpretations, petrophysical analysis, and incorporation of emerging technologies
  • Monitor/evaluate competitor activity. Reinforce these learnings with reservoir group in core asset areas.  Implement and maintain fast follower best practices.
  • Calibrate core data to all available wireline log data
  • Analyze and interpret core and well log data
  • Tie all subsurface data to well performance trends
  • Perform basin level assessments of “legacy” plays toward possible entry
  • Technical contribution on special projects and new venture opportunities within asset base
  • Interaction with Business Development to help develop acquisition and extension opportunities providing company growth 
  • Provide technical inputs and assumptions to Business Development group for bolt-on acquisition and divestiture opportunities
  • Involved in sanctioning the full-field development of Oasis’s drilling spacing units 
  • Additional duties as needed by management and Company operations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Geology
  • Permian Basin experience
  • 5 years of strong background in unconventional and conventional basins
  • Proficient use of geological workstations (PETRA, GeoGraphix, Kingdom) or equivalent, and Microsoft Office software (excel/ppt/word/outlook)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated individual with strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and communicate in a multi-disciplinary team environment, with consultants, and with vendors/ technical service providers
  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:  Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
