  • Position Summary

    Oasis Petroleum is seeking a results-driven and innovative Reservoir Engineer. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, relevant experience in unconventional reservoirs, strong team building and project management skills, initiative, and creativity in problem solving. He/she will work with multiple disciplines to optimize the value of tight oil development projects.  This engineer will have a proven history of applying technical reservoir engineering principles, performing complex project analysis, and collaborating with a variety of sub-surface disciplines. The position is based in Houston, TX.  Level and salary commensurate with background and experience.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Collaborate with geology and engineering staff to design and implement reservoir characterization and monitoring strategies for asset evaluation
    • Perform empirical, analytical, and some numerical analysis of well performance and other information to assess completion effectiveness, quantify recoverable resource, and forecast production
    • Conduct uncertainty and risk assessments
    • Employ sound decision making methods to complex projects, including commercial and economic analysis
    • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to develop and secure approval of well spacing and completion recommendations
    • Support recurring internal processes such as budget quarterly updates and reserve reviews
    • Prepare work plans, technical reports, and project updates
    • Present to audiences across the company and levels of management
    • Interact with industry experts to identify and implement advanced reservoir engineering technologies
    • Pursue and foster coaching and knowledge transfer
    • Other duties as assigned by manager

    Minimum Qualifications

    • B.S. in Engineering
    • 5 years of experience in petroleum engineering
    • 3 years of experience in reservoir engineering
    • Experience in shale plays, unconventional assets, and tight-oil reservoir development
    • Software proficiency in decline curve analysis, rate transient analysis, or full field production modeling
    • Strong background in economics
    • Ability to communicate effectively across all functions in the organization
    • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:  Must possess the ability to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, copier, files, telephone, and fax; maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone

    Preferred Qualifications

    • B.S. in Petroleum Engineering
    • 5 years of reservoir engineering experience with emphasis on unconventional reservoirs
    • Some operations experience in production, completions, or facilities engineering
    • Educated and experienced in applying risk analysis and decision quality methodologies
    • Experience in leading multi-discipline projects
    • Actively participates in industry technical events
