  • Position Summary

    The Drilling Engineering Advisor will be responsible for maintaining technical excellence for drilling engineering and well design, driving continual improvement, and mentoring staff drilling engineers. Collaboration with other disciplines of the Company for drilling engineering related issues will be necessary in order for the Operations Department to be successful and meet Company objectives.  This position is located in downtown Houston, Texas. 

     

    Salary and level will be commensurate with experience.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Work closely with geo-scientists and reservoir engineers to ensure an understanding of well objectives for drilling projects
    • Champion post well reviews to identify best practices and lessons learned, and document these in a lessons learned database
    • Provide oversight to ensure quality well designs that meet well specific goals utilizing established engineering tools and standards
    • Provide oversight to ensure quality drilling procedures and contingency plans that incorporate the overall well delivery objective of optimizing production and EUR
    • Lead and/or conduct complex engineering studies using advanced concepts
    • Measure, monitor, and benchmark drilling performance
    • Research and apply new drilling engineering/operations technologies
    • Responsible for risk assessments
    • Interface with asset teams to develop timelines in order to maintain efficient drilling operations
    • Communicate operations issues with asset teams and other Company departments
    • Benchmark capital spending and cost efficiency in all aspects of drilling operations
    • Interface with on-site supervisors and monitor daily drilling operations
    • Responsible for developing equipment modernization/modification recommendations
    • Evaluate bids and secure services in support of drilling operations
    • Support development of Oasis UC D&C position in regards to the various Industry standards and recommended practices
    • Perform engineering well surveillance during execution and write post-well engineering reports
    • Responsible for maintaining required safety training and compliance
    • Work with Regulatory Department to assure assigned wells are properly permitted
    • Work with Supply Chain Management (SCM) to prepare tenders, analyze vendor responses, award contracts and administer assigned contracts; Negotiate and approve invoice settlements with service providers
    • Evaluate third-party design analysis for thoroughness and accuracy
    • Establish successful relationships with vendors, contractors and field personnel
    • Manage contracts and contractors to continuous improvement via Contractor Management Standards
    • Accountable for knowledge of and compliance with all applicable regulations and company HES training requirements and policies
    • Support D&C efforts in Industry associations
    • Mentor staff drilling engineers

    Minimum Qualifications

    • 15 years of experience in drilling operations
    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
    • Unconventional developments experience 
    • Outstanding Horizontal Drilling Skills
    • Understand the ultimate goal of well delivery to the company of optimizing production and EUR
    • Advanced safety, well control, and risk management knowledge
    • Strong knowledge of all field operations, rig selection, equipment selection and personnel requirements
    • Strong commitment to maximize utilization and revenue, and control expenses
    • Strong planning, organizational and problem solving skills
    • Good communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment at all levels
    • Contractor performance management skills
    • Able to travel which is essential to job
    • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 10 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
