Position Summary

Oasis is seeking a Tax Manager for its corporate office located in Houston, Texas. This position will be responsible for managing i) all aspects of the tax compliance process for both the corporate and MLP returns, (ii) all tax functions, including indirect taxes and tax audits, iii) the development and implementation of tax planning initiatives, and iv) the preparation and review of quarterly and annual ASC 740 and FIN 48 calculations and analysis. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Accounting and Controller. Salary and level will be commensurate with experience.

Essential Job Functions

 

  • Manage preparation of federal and state income tax compliance for both the corporate and MLP returns, with hands-on capacity for review and some preparation
  • Manage preparation and review of quarterly and annual ASC 740 and FIN 48 calculations and analysis
  • Manage the in-house tax compliance calendar for the MLP, using public accounting firm assistance for productions of K-1s
  • Lead in the development and implementation of tax planning initiatives
  • Establish, improve, implement and maintain tax processes and system improvements
  • Lead in defending tax filing positions in audits by taxing jurisdictions
  • Proactively minimize the Company’s tax liabilities via identifying, researching, recommending and implementing tax planning, incentives and structuring at the federal, state and local levels
  • Proactively stay abreast of new and proposed tax legislation that could impact the Company’s tax liability, including determining and projecting the impact on the Company, as needed
  • Manage goals and day-to-day responsibilities of the Tax department, including management of tax staff
  • Review and approve all tax-related journal entries, account reconciliations, account analysis and financial statement variances
  • Review and approve all tax-related disclosures in SEC filings
  • Review all SOX controls (monthly, quarterly, yearly); continually review processes to determine if controls are sufficient and review for changes, as needed; participate in all controls testing by both internal and external auditors
  • Actively develop staff by answering questions, assisting with process changes and enhancements, knowledge sharing, providing open communication and providing constant feedback
  • Be a key point of contact to resolve all tax-related issues, both within the Accounting department and across the organization
  • Manage all tax-related special projects and questions, as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
  • 8+ years of experience in corporate tax matters
  • 5+ years of experience in a Tax Manager capacity with experience in managing a small team.
  • Experienced technical background in federal, state and partnership taxation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and research tools.
  • Strong analytical and technical skills; detailed oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills and work process orientation necessary; ability to prioritize workload and deliver results.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leadership skills with coaching, mentoring and team building.
  • Must be an independent self-starter with a high level of confidence and a critical approach to matters.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters in Tax, or similar advanced degree
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a large public accounting firm
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a large corporate tax department
  • Active CPA certification
  • Oil and gas experience
  • MLP experience
